Conscious Creators- Tash Scutts, Founder Lovebyt

Conscious Creators is a series to share the people we admire and who inspire us. These people have consciously created businesses, often against the grain of the conventional norm, with spirit and soul.
We discover why they created their brands, their lifestyle and little beauty tricks they’ve learnt along the way.

Next in this series we asked creator & founder of Lovebyt Botanical Toothpaste, Tash Scutts to share a little of her world with us. Tash shares her motivating work ethic mixed with relaxed and down to earth approach to life and health.

What did you do before creating LOVEBYT?

I was the Head Buyer at Bassike for 8 years

What made you decide to do it?

I wanted to have my own business and I believed that there was an opportunity to make Australian made natural toothpaste using premium ingredients and quality packaging.

Where did the name come from?

LOVE BY T (Tash) that’s me.

And what has been your biggest challenge so far?

For the first year of business I attended 3 markets each weekend to get my name out and meet my customers. Challenging in the sense of hard work setting up, travelling long distance in the very early hours of the morning. And the weather- rain, hail or shine.

Which three words sum up your approach to beauty?

Keep it simple.

How do you like to exercise?

Walking to the beach almost every day and swimming in the ocean.

What is your favourite beauty food?

Definitely a carrot, beetroot, ginger and orange juice.

Are you hooked on any health trends right now?

Switching from chemical laden makeup, face creams and toothpastes to natural alternatives.

Which podcasts can you recommend?

I just finished listening to the best podcast – it’s called Never Split The Difference. A book about negotiation principles. By Chris Voss an ex US hostage negotiator. So interesting. Also Ray Krok – Grinding it out. He started McDonalds at 52.

Any must read books or must -see films to share?

I just finished listening to American Dirt and I loved it. It is a story about a Mexican mother and son running from the cartel to escape Mexico to the US.

How do you refill your cup at the end of a busy week?

Definitely a gin & tonic and catching up with family and friends.

What kind of energy do you try to bring to daily life? And what do you do to reset on those days when life feels chaotic or out of control?

I am very motivated so I always have lots of energy but if I am feeling `overwhelmed, I might leave what I’m doing and come back to it later. I also every Monday write a list of things to do for the week and tick it off as I go. This helps me to sleep at night and not write lists in my head if I wake up.

What’s your all-time favourite beauty trick?

I love to wear a lip and cheek. I often just use a lipstick to do the job of both.

The best piece of advice you’ve ever read or received?

My husband said to me once when I was a bit stressed out “if it was easy then everyone would do it “ I think about this when I’m feeling frazzled.

Where do you go to feel inspired?

When I go shopping. I look at packaging, products, marketing and this inspires me.

This is a tricky question to answer in 2020, but what is next for you?

I would like to be selling my products in China. I will also launch a kids range of toothpaste and another flavour of LOVEBYT toothpaste and hopefully a travel range too.
